Max Coleman aka Oak Bloak is an illustrator and painter from Denver, Colorado. His mural for London Mural Festival 2024 is his first in the city!
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Max’s work challenges classical conceptions of beauty, exploring nature, the human condition, mythology, and spirituality. In recent years, his studio practice has garnered attention exploring these same themes through animal portraiture. Through the use bright color and massive scale, his murals create spaces for thought and introspection, where viewers can engage with deeper parts of themselves.
“For London Mural Festival I have explored the theme of re-connection via a portrait of the greek god, Pan. Humanity's connection to the natural world, as well as the natural world itself has shrunk, and we now find ourselves at a precipice of an uncertain future. Through the use of claustrophobia and figurative painting I will be creating a mural that confronts the viewer with the god of nature confined in an ever shrinking space. Is he trapped? Or will he be able to escape and guide humanity to a sustainable livable future on planet Earth? We shall see.” Max Coleman aka Oak Bloak
